Overview
Livagen is a synthetic tetrapeptide with the sequence lysine-glutamic acid-aspartic acid-alanine (Lys-Glu-Asp-Ala), one of a family of short tissue-specific bioregulator peptides developed in the research program of Vladimir Khavinson in Russia. It is described in that literature as acting on lymphocyte and liver functions, with proposed effects on immune and hepatic aging. Published work is largely from the originating research group and appears mainly in Russian-language or Russian-origin journals; independent replication in the wider literature is limited.
Mechanism
According to the Khavinson model, short peptides such as Livagen can enter cells and interact with DNA, regulating gene expression in a tissue-directed manner. For Livagen specifically, reported studies describe effects on immune-cell populations and liver tissue in animal models, but the molecular mechanism is not independently established.
Dosing
In the originating studies Livagen is typically given by injection in animal protocols or by short sublingual courses in the associated clinical practice; exact doses are study-specific. No standardized international research dosing exists.
Expected Effects
Effects attributed to Livagen in the originating literature include normalization of some lymphocyte parameters and liver-related markers in aged animals. These findings have not been broadly reproduced outside the originating research program.
