Overview
Mechano growth factor (MGF) is the insulin-like growth factor-1 Ec (IGF-1Ec) splice variant expressed in skeletal muscle in response to mechanical loading and injury. PEG-MGF is the polyethylene-glycol-conjugated form of this peptide, used in research to prolong its short half-life in circulation. Most available information comes from muscle-biology studies in animal models and from the research-compound market; it is not an approved drug.
Mechanism
MGF differs from the liver-type IGF-1Ea variant by a carboxy-terminal E-domain sequence that is proposed to activate satellite cells, the muscle stem-cell pool responsible for post-injury repair. PEGylation reduces renal clearance and proteolytic degradation, extending the peptide's exposure time. Its receptor pharmacology is still debated, with some effects attributed to IGF-1 receptor signaling and others to distinct actions of the E-domain region.
Dosing
Research dosing refers to subcutaneous or intramuscular injection protocols used in animal models of muscle injury and in laboratory experiments; human clinical dosing is not established.
