Overview
Glutathione is a ubiquitous endogenous tripeptide (gamma-glutamyl-cysteinyl-glycine) and the main intracellular thiol antioxidant. Under the catalog heading Glutathione Analogs, suppliers group glutathione itself together with modified forms such as esters, liposomal preparations, and peptide-conjugated formulations whose composition and evidence base differ widely. Because oral glutathione is absorbed poorly, research has focused on precursors such as N-acetylcysteine and on alternative delivery forms.
Mechanism
Glutathione cycles between a reduced form (GSH) and an oxidized form (GSSG), serving as a cofactor for glutathione peroxidases and transferases and directly neutralizing reactive oxygen species and electrophiles. It also acts as a cysteine reservoir and participates in the detoxification of xenobiotics.
Dosing
Glutathione products are typically taken orally as supplements, while some research protocols examine intravenous or liposomal forms; no standardized dosing applies across the different analog formulations. N-acetylcysteine, by contrast, is a regulated drug with its own approved indications and dosing.

Side Effects & Tolerability
