Thymulin (facteur thymique serique, FTS) is a genuine thymic nonapeptide hormone that requires zinc for its biological activity, and zinc-thymulin refers to this zinc-bound active form. Mechanism
Thymulin is secreted by thymic epithelial cells and, in its zinc-complexed form, enhances the maturation and function of T lymphocytes. Zinc coordination is essential for receptor binding and biological activity, which is why the peptide is studied together with zinc status.
